Here’s what I got for you today:

How Patrick Murray started a $1.2M/Year business with No-code tools like Typeform & Zapier.

Read time: 4min 16sec

WHAT’S THE PRODUCT?

Very simple idea.

They offer cheap airport parking reservations to budget-conscious leisure and vacation travelers nationwide. They operate in 27 markets and generate approximately $1.2 million in annual revenue.

THE BACKGROUND

A few sentences about Patrick, the founder.

Patrick started his entrepreneurial journey in high school, where he had business plan sessions after school and tried out startups in college.

However, it wasn't until after college, when he had student loans and wanted to make a living on his own terms, that his true entrepreneurial spirit emerged.

His real turning point came in 2013, when he co-founded Way.com, immersing himself in the parking industry and sparking a fascination with off-airport parking solutions.

NOSON (his company) started when he left Way.com and teamed up with industry expert Brett Harwood.

THE EARLY DAYS

The early days weren’t easy…

He screwed up in the beginning. Big time.

He hired an agency to develop his MVP. They spent a year building it (and also cost $50k+). This was more than triple the original quote + timeline.

He didn’t have enough to pay himself a salary the next month. He has been flying around the country to interview potential customers and solve a problem.

But he didn’t even have a product yet.

PROBLEM SOLVING

He had to come up with a solution…

He got his sh*t together and started doing the work himself.

His only solution was... You guessed it!

No-code tools.

He quickly made a website overnight to start making some revenue.

This was his tech-stack:

  • Weebly - A super easy website builder

  • Typeform - Easy to use forms with logic

  • Zapier - A tool that allows you to connect different apps to each other

  • Gmail - Email service

  • Google Sheets - A free online excel

  • Google Optimize - A/B testing tool (or use Humblytics if you’re cooler)

  • Google Analytics - Analytics tool to see what your users are doing (or use Humblytics if you’re cooler)

  • Google Search Console - SEO

  • Twilio - Send text message to your users

  • Stripe - Payment processor

  • Sendgrid - Mass email sender

  • Hotjar - Record and watch videos of your website users

  • Ahrefs - Another SEO tool

All this comes to about $500 a month.

$50k when trying to do it with code vs. $500 with no-code apps.

Huge difference.

“If you have an idea, all you need to do is create a Typeform with Stripe integration and you can easily validate it. It’s truly that simple. Any other reason to delay testing an idea out is a fear-based excuse.”

LAUNCH + GETTING CUSTOMERS

The process of launching NOSON.

They started off with their MVP, from there they’d just get on as many calls as possible with customers and iterate the product until it was perfect.

Get on calls → A/B test → Get data → Update the product

How did they get their customers?

Patrick didn’t go into detail, but they leveraged social media (Mainly Facebook groups) and they offered coupon codes to foster a community around the brand.

This, along with a careful partnership plan, guarantees a smooth user experience from booking to parking.

NOSON's marketing strategy focuses on trying different methods to attract and keep customers. This flexible and adaptable approach has helped them build a loyal customer base in a competitive market.

ADVICE

Patrick’s top 5 lessons he learnt while building, launching and scaling NOSON…

  • Monetize early - Choose one idea and start generating income, whether through a service, a product, or pre-sales.

  • Think long-term - Embrace the journey and set goals for the next decade, not just the coming year.

  • Narrow your focus - Concentrate on solving one key problem. Refine your offering based on user feedback and testing.

  • Build your audience - Attract and retain a base of users or customers through targeted marketing and engagement strategies.

  • Iterate and improve - Continuously adapt your product or service based on customer interactions and feedback for sustained growth.

ACTION ITEM

If you have an idea. Just do it!

Grab Typeform and Stripe.

Set it up.

Show it to people & validate it.

Taking action is the only way of making it happen!

…aaaand that’s a wrap!

See you next week! 👋
